Jenny Smerud, CPA

Jenny Smerud, CPA, joined Fiat Tax in 2025 and specializes in tax planning, consulting and compliance services for businesses and business owners, primarily in the healthcare industry. She has more than twenty years of experience in public accounting, starting her career in a Big 4 accounting firm and most recently holding a leadership position at a large regional accounting firm. Jenny spent five years as the chief financial officer of her own closely held business, which gave her a unique perspective on the needs and challenges of being a business owner.

Jenny has extensive experience helping clients navigate all aspects of business ownership from starting a new business through business transitions, purchase and sale transactions. She regularly consults and presents on topics related to physician compensation formulas and mergers and acquisitions.

In her free time, Jenny enjoys spending time with her husband and three children residing in Carlsbad, California. She is a clarinetist and performs with the La Jolla Symphony Orchestra and volunteers as a clarinet coach for local high schools. Jenny is also a two-time Ironman Triathlete and swims, bikes, and runs as much as possible.
